Keeping pace with other countries of the world, Bangladesh Launched the privatisation programmes in mid seventies. In spite of relentless and sincere efforts of the successive governments to lead the privatisation programme for more than last 20 years, this programme has achieved very limited success.
Although the initial impetus of privatisation was found from heavy losses of SOEs (STATE owned Enterprises), it is now considered effective economic agenda for sustainable development.
Raising efficiency: It raises the efficiency of the enterprises. This is because, the SOEs are managed by the bureacrats who do not have proper managerial capability. Whenever these enterprises are sold to the real entrepreneur class, a qualitative change takes place in the management.
